In accordance with the demands of the university community, the Theater of Paul Valery University, La Vignette, is a professional tool that bases its work upon the fundamental missions of academia: research and the transmission of knowledge. Presenting theater as well as music and dance, its programming is centered around two different axes. One is comprised of professional performances that symbolize a particular artistic thinking, capable of questioning certain academic assumptions. The other consists of student performances originating from universities, theater schools and conservatories in France and abroad. Its activities reflect the richness of the academic world, as much as in the diversity of its community as in its intellectual dimension. The theater endeavors to be a privileged meeting place between academia and artistic creation, to which the different documents under the dossier link attest. The theater facilitates the presence of artists on the campus, notably by initiating residencies for theater companies, and strives to develop exacting artistic practicesloyal to those of university theater in general. It works as a complement to and in collaboration with the art departments, especially that of Performance Studies, to organize workshops open to every student. Taking stake in the relevance of a possible shared work between artists and academics, certain workshops unite energies around a thematic exploration.
